Shakira’s Tour Back on Track After Hospitalization Delays Peru Concert
Colombian pop sensation Shakira is set to perform in Lima, Peru, this Monday after canceling her Sunday night show due to an abdominal issue that required hospitalization.
Master Live, the company organizing the event, confirmed that the concert will go ahead as scheduled on Monday, February 17, at 8:15 p.m. local time at the National Stadium in Lima.
“We are pleased to announce that today’s concert will proceed as planned. We appreciate Shakira’s dedication and effort to make this show happen,” Master Live stated.
The organizers also assured fans that a new date would be announced for the postponed Sunday concert.
On Sunday, Shakira took to Instagram to inform her followers that she had been admitted to the emergency room and was advised not to perform.
“The doctors treating me have determined that I am not well enough to take the stage tonight,” she wrote.
Expressing her disappointment, Shakira added, “I am heartbroken that I can’t perform today. I was so excited to reunite with my amazing fans in Peru.” She also mentioned that she hoped to be discharged soon.
“My team and the promoters are already working on rescheduling, and I will share the new date as soon as possible,” she added. However, as of now, there has been no confirmation of her hospital discharge.
Meanwhile, fans in Lima were seen holding posters of the singer in anticipation of her return. Shakira’s social media has also posted updates about Monday’s concert, including the expected setlist.
Before falling ill, Shakira had shared a heartfelt message on social media, thanking her Peruvian fans for their warm welcome, alongside photos of her greeting excited crowds.
Currently on a world tour, the singer is scheduled to perform in multiple Latin American countries before heading to the U.S., where she will begin the next leg of her tour on May 13 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Titled Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), the tour marks another major milestone in Shakira’s career as one of the most influential Latin American artists of the 21st century.
Despite her success, Shakira has faced legal challenges in recent years. In November 2023, she settled a tax evasion case with Spanish authorities, admitting to the charges and paying €17.5 million ($19 million), which included the owed taxes, interest, and a €7.3 million ($8 million) fine, as per the Barcelona prosecutor’s office.
