People online are shocked after only just learning that 2XL and XXL are different sizes.
One TikTok user has baffled people by explaining the different sizes and labels on clothing.
Makayla aka @itsmakaylasmith on the app, shared to her 47k followers: “Should I make a video explaining the difference between XXL and 2XL??”
2XL and XXL are in fact different sizes. They are each cut differently.
An XXL is larger than an XL in all measurements where as a 2XL is a lot larger but not longer than an XL.
She explained visually by wearing the two different sizes, in the clip shared to her followers.
The XXL in the video fits in a uniform way but the 2XL is more roomy, taking the arm and abdomen length into account.
Many online were shocked, with one person writing: “Eye opener! I didn’t know!” while another said: “I [learned] something new today.”
“WHOAAAAAA This makes so much sense,” shared another and a fourth added: “Noted for when im next buying for other people. clothes never seem like a safe gift but knowing this may change that!”
So, if you are looking for more fitted, then an XXL would be the best option. If you wanted something more comfortable and breathable, a 2XL is the best choice.
Dr. Simeon Gill, Lecturer in Fashion Technology at the University of Manchester, shared with the BBC that sizing on clothings needs to be “improved”: “But to do so would need to recognize population variability and requires more sizes or a fundamental change in how we provide products,” Gill continued. “Sizing for jeans – in fact, for all clothing – should be based directly on body measurements of the individual it is made to fit.”
“There is no good reason that women’s jeans should not be sized as men’s jeans are, with waist and leg length. Most of this is about existing practices, and fear of change [and] lost sales,”.
