At least 37 people lost their lives and many others were injured in a devastating bus crash.
The collision occurred on the route between the cities of Uyuni and Colchani, located in the western Potosi region of Bolivia, as reported by Reuters.
The accident took place early Saturday morning, according to a statement from the Departmental Police Command of Potosi.
“As a result of this tragic incident, 39 people were injured and taken to four hospitals in Uyuni, while 37 people have unfortunately lost their lives,” a police spokesperson said.
The injured were transported to a hospital in Uyuni where they received medical treatment.
At the time of writing, authorities were still in the process of identifying the victims.
The Departmental Police Command of Potosi’s report stated that the crash occurred after one of the buses veered into the oncoming lane, likely due to speeding.
To retrieve the bodies, a crane was required to overturn one of the buses, which had rolled onto its side.
This tragic event follows another incident in north-west London, where a bus and a car collided on a residential street, leaving one person dead and three others injured.
When paramedics arrived at Whitmore Road in Harrow, they found a person in critical condition but, sadly, they were unable to save them.
The crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday.
“We were called at 9:17 p.m. on February 24 to reports of a road traffic collision near Whitmore Road,” said the London Ambulance Service.
“We deployed multiple resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and members of our hazardous area response team (HART), as well as command support vehicles.”
“We treated four patients at the scene, transporting two to a major trauma center and discharging one. Sadly, despite the best efforts of our team, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
