Quila Lee, her oldest daughter Rakiya, and twins Kamiya and Kalaya all graduated together on May 7th from Georgia State University. The family received their bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the same ceremony at the Georgia State Convocation Center.
Kamiya and Kalaya, both Biology majors, have always shared milestones and plan to attend medical school. Kamiya hopes to become a gynecologist, while Kalaya wants to be a veterinarian.
Rakiya, who graduated with a master’s in public administration, said it is surreal to graduate alongside not just her sisters, but also her mother. “She’s the glue of our family, for sure, and she just keeps being the trailblazer. And I’m gonna follow behind her.”
The sisters credit their mom as the reason they’ve come this far. Kamiya said, “I think my mom is the best. I think she’s a great role model. And I thank God that he gave me my mom… and allowed me to have somebody like her to look up to and to aspire to be like.”
Quila was deeply moved by the praise. She reflected on her parenting and said hearing her daughters’ words assured her she had done something right.
