Jennifer Lopez’s Love Life: A Look Back at Her High-Profile Relationships
Since stepping into the spotlight, Jennifer Lopez’s love life has been under intense scrutiny. From her decades-long romance with Ben Affleck to her rumored relationship with Drake, Lopez’s dating history continues to fascinate the public.
Her ninth studio album, This Is Me … Now, and its accompanying movie-musical further fueled this intrigue. The project acknowledges her high-profile relationships and her inclination towards romance. In the trailer for This Is Me … Now: A Love Story, Lopez reflects, “Whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always: ‘In love.’”
Below, we take a look at Lopez’s marriages, engagements, and relationships—from her time with singer Marc Anthony to her broken engagement with Alex Rodriguez.
Ben Affleck (2021–2024)
Fans were stunned when Lopez and Affleck rekindled their romance in April 2021, nearly two decades after their first engagement. Their relationship quickly escalated, leading to a second engagement in 2022.
“Did you ever imagine your biggest dream could come true?” Lopez wrote in a special edition of her fan newsletter, On the JLo. “Saturday night while at my favorite place on earth (in the bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed.”
The couple tied the knot in a surprise Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a grand wedding in Georgia the following month. Lopez credited their reunion for inspiring This Is Me … Now. “When he came back into my life, I felt so inspired that the music just poured out of me,” she told Apple Music.
Affleck also praised Lopez, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, “She is incredibly knowledgeable about fashion as it evolves through music, sports, entertainment, and dance.”
However, their rekindled romance came to an end in 2024. Lopez filed for divorce in August, citing April 26, 2024, as their date of separation. Reports suggested they had been living separately for months prior to the official split.
Alex Rodriguez (2017–2021)
Lopez first met MLB star Alex Rodriguez in 2005 at a Yankees game but didn’t reconnect until 2017. They began dating after a chance encounter, and their romance quickly became a fixture in Hollywood.
The couple attended numerous high-profile events together, including the Met Gala and the Oscars. Rodriguez even accompanied Lopez to her performance at President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021.
They announced their engagement in 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed their wedding plans. By April 2021, the couple announced their breakup, stating, “We have realized we are better as friends.”
A source later revealed that Lopez ended the relationship after losing trust in Rodriguez. “After months of questioning things and fighting, Jennifer felt like she could no longer trust Alex anymore,” the insider told E! News.
Drake (2016)
Lopez and Drake sparked dating rumors in December 2016 when he was spotted at her Las Vegas residency. The speculation intensified after they shared affectionate posts on Instagram, including one of Lopez lying across Drake’s lap.
However, Lopez denied the romance during a 2017 interview on The Daily Show, stating, “I am not with Drake.”
Drake appeared to reference their brief fling in his 2018 track Diplomatic Immunity, rapping, “2010 was when I lost my halo / 2017 I lost a J.Lo.”
Casper Smart (2011–2016)
Shortly after her divorce from Marc Anthony, Lopez began dating her backup dancer, Casper Smart. Though initially described as a “fun fling,” their relationship lasted several years in an on-again, off-again fashion.
In 2016, they officially broke up. While early reports claimed the split was amicable, sources later alleged that Smart had been unfaithful. “She kicked him out because he cheated on her and got caught,” an insider told People. “She was done.”
